Will ‘Ahsoka’ Essentially Be ‘Star Wars Rebels’ Season 5?
With the conclusion of The Mandalorian Season 3, all eyes are now turning to Ahsoka.
Based on the first trailer released for the upcoming show, it appears as if producer Dave Filoni will be picking up the loose ends of the fan-favorite animated series Star Wars Rebels and bringing them into live-action.

Star Wars Rebels
While Ahsoka Tano was first introduced as Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice in The Clone Wars, she later joined forces with the crew of the Ghost for Star Wars Rebels.
Set during the Imperial Era, Rebels introduced Star Wars fans to Kanan Jarrus, a former Jedi, and his apprentice Ezra Bridger. The Jedi duo was joined by Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, Zeb Orrelios, and Chopper to form the Rebel-aligned Ghost crew.

SPOILER: Rebels ended with Ezra throwing himself into hyperspace to stop Grand Admiral Thrawn. The show then featured a time jump, where Ahsoka Tano and Sabine set off to parts unknown to locate Ezra and Thrawn.
The Ghost Crew Moves To Live-Action
The inclusion of the Ghost crew and Ahsoka’s mission to find Thrawn has led many Star Wars fans to wonder if Ahsoka will essentially be a fifth season of Rebels.

In a recent interview, Rebels and Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni was quick to acknowledge that line of thinking.
“I suppose that’s one way of looking at it, because of the epilogue that I did in Rebels. Definitely, all signs are indicating that there’s a continuation.”

A Story Regardless of Medium
Filoni views the upcoming series as a continuation of a larger story that he has been telling, regardless of the medium.
“For me, when I’m telling those stories, I don’t limit things like, ‘Oh, well, I did it an animation, so I would do it distinctly different in live action.’ There’s just the story that it is, and I was telling it in one medium.”

While Rebels fans should rightfully be excited, Filoni also notes that the overarching Star Wars story has changed since he worked on the animated series.
“Rebels is a different style than Clone Wars. Even visually, that changed the way I could execute certain things in Rebels. The story kind of evolved since I worked on Rebels.”

With Thrawn seemingly returning to claim his role as heir to the Empire, it seems as if a Ghost crew reunion is in the works. While we may not know exactly how things will unfold, Star Wars Rebels fans have reason to be excited.
