Hocus Pocus Continues To Cast A Spell On Cinema Audiences
With new cinema releases biding their time before reopening in the theaters, studios are re-releasing popular films. Hocus Pocus is one such example and is quickly becoming one of the hottest movies at the box office. A couple of weeks ago we reported that the film made an impressive $2 million on opening weekend. Though this may not seem a lot, with some theaters still shuttered and others with limited audiences, this is an impressive feat, especially for a re-release.
Since then, the juggernaut that is Hocus Pocus has show no signs of slowing. A tweet was just released by Gitesh Pandya reporting that the film has made another $530,000 over it’s 4th weekend. This brings its re-release total so far to $4.3 million making it the biggest theatrical re-release of the year!

Disney has a few other films on the list above that are worth of mention with Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas bringing in an impressive $577,000, Monsters Inc. lagging a bit behind with $494,000 and New Mutants bringing in another $286,000.
Earlier this month, we here at MickeyBlog ran a story about how Bette Midler is eager to reprise her role as Winifred Sanderson in a rumored sequel. In the meantime, she is getting the gang back together – Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy for a virtual Halloween fundraiser.
For those that can’t make it to the cinema this weekend, Hocus Pocus is also available to screen on Disney+ and will also be showing on Freeform as their 31 Nights of Halloween programming a whopping 14 times over the month of October.
Mick Garris, the screenwriter on the original film told ComicBook.com that he’s excited about the possibility of a sequel for the film which has developed a HUGE cult following over the years. However Garris had this to say about the success of any future film, “I’m excited about [the sequel], but I really think the main reason the movie worked was the Sanderson Sisters, those actresses in those roles, those performances, that I think is the key to that movie’s long life.”
Directed by Kenny Ortega and starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy, Hocus Pocus is now playing in select theaters. This is a story that we’ll continue to follow closely here at MickeyBlog. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with us for further news and updates.
