The Holiday Lighting at Spaceship Earth in EPCOT Is Astounding
We spend so much time talking about all of the incredible things happening at Disney World that it really takes a lot to dazzle us. However, it happened when we saw an Instagram post that went up today from Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley regarding holiday lightning on Spaceship Earth.
In preparation for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration which officially kicked off on October 1st, and as part of the undoing re-imagining of EPCOT, new lighting technology was added to Spaceship Earth. That means that this iconic EPCOT landmark can light up in ways that we never thought possible! It also means that the lighting can be programmed depending on time of day, season etc.
And here’s a great example of how this new Spaceship Earth lightning technology can work to its full advantage!

Isn’t that absolutely incredible!? This special lightning composition was created especially for Festival of the Holidays. As Riddley tells us, the team was inspired by the concept of using light to usher in the holiday celebrations around the world and the Imagineering team developed a new holiday themed scene that will be added to the Beacons of Magic that guests already see when visiting the park!
The colors featured in the design also be tribute to EPCOT’s glorious past with segments reminiscent of Lights of Winter which was a holiday display that ran at EPCOT from 1994 – 2008.
