Disneyland Wait Times for May 2023
How can you tell when Disneyland Park is especially crowded?
If Disney Genie+ sells out, you know things have gotten a bit out of hand.

Fantasmic! Fire
That’s what happened during Easter Week, which was among the most crowded weeks at Disneyland since the pandemic.
Also, Disneyland’s Fantasmic! dragon caught fire. So, it’s been that kind of month.
Here are Disneyland’s wait times for the past month.
Disneyland Park
As a reminder, the “May 2023” wait times actually cover April 2023. I’m not Madame Leota, and I don’t have a crystal ball.
Historically, April has proven a tale of two seasons at Disneyland Resort.
Whenever Easter Week falls in April, the parks grow crowded until the holiday ends. After that, they tend to slow down.
By the end of April and the start of May, you’ll find Disneyland is slower than average on most dates. It’s a sneaky-great time to visit the Happiest Place on Earth.
Until then, well, Disney Genie+ could sell out because the place is so crowded.
This April also represents the first full month that the new and improved Mickey’s Toontown has operated.
I’m in love with this updated themed land, which I believe signifies the future of Disney theme park design.
The curiosity factor of the modified Mickey’s Toontown unquestionably enticed more guests to visit Disney than is typical in mid-April and beyond.
Similarly, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is barely three months old and an absolute masterpiece of an E-ticket attraction.
Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, which Disney modernized in 2022, and Chip ‘n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster are also attracting interested guests.

Guests will be able to enjoy favorite returning attractions like Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin once again in the reimagined Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif. In short, there’s more happening than we usually track at Disneyland in late Spring. That could impact wait times.

Let’s Talk about Disneyland Wait Times
First, let me be real with you. If you’re waiting longer for Car Toon Spin than Runaway Railway, you’re doing it wrong.
Second, that Splash Mountain increase reflects a sign of things to come. We’re counting down the days until America loses its favorite wet ride.
Splash Mountain closes for good at the end of the month. So, we’ll only track the wait time once more.
All these factors do play a part in the average wait time per attraction. It was 33 minutes, the same as last time.

However, the numbers would have been waaaaaaay down overall if not for Mickey’s Toontown and Easter Week.

Average Waits at Disney California Adventure

Overall, guests waited for an average of 37 minutes per attraction. That’s two minutes less than last time.
So, the two parks required a shorter overall wait than last month…but only by an eyelash.

The interesting point here is that Disney California Adventure will get better this summer when San Fransokyo opens this summer.
The wait times should go down in the interim, as the only busy period in May is typically Memorial Day Weekend.
