‘The Little Mermaid’ Is Tracking To Make Quite The Splash Memorial Day Weekend
Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid looks like it could make quite the splash this Memorial Day Weekend.
The film is currently tracking for a $110M 4-day opening weekend. That would put it in the top eight openings of all time for that weekend, with last year’s Top Gun: Maverick holding the record with $160.5 million.
Where The Little Mermaid Would Rank
According to insiders, ticket sales for The Little Mermaid have tended to skew female, favoring those under the age of 25. Those numbers would keep in line with the target audience for the film.
A $110 million opening weekend would also put the film on par with Disney’s live-action Aladdin, which debuted to a 4-day of $116 million in 2019.
Disney’s top Memorial Day release is still 2007’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. The film brought in $153 million.
High Expectations
The Little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey as Ariel and was directed by Rob Marshall. The film also features Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric. Daveeed Diggs supplies the voice of Sebastian.
A live-action remake of a classic animated film, expectations for the upcoming Little Mermaid are high.
