Welcome back to our continuing trip through Disney’s magical history. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- May 2.
May 2nd was an important day in Disney, with the debut of a classic attraction, the premiere of a Marvel classic, and the return of an old Walt Disney World friend. So, let’s get started!
Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln Debuts (1964)
On this day in 1964, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln finally debuted at the 1964’s World Fair.
Although delayed, the attraction would be a hit for Disney. Following the end of the fair, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln would be moved to Disneyland.
EPCOT Center Site Tours Begin (1982)
On this day in 1982, EPCOT Center site tours began for cast members.
Narrated tours of the soon-to-open park left every half hour for cast members and their families.
The Orginal Theater of the Stars Closes (1993)
On this day in 1993, the original Theater of the Star closed at the Disney-MGM Studios.
Originally located next to the Hollywood Brown Derby, the theater was moved to make way for the construction of Sunset Boulevard.
The Lizzie McGuire Movie Released (2003)
On this day in 2003, The Lizzie McGuire Movie was released in theaters.
The film served as a finale for the popular Disney Channel show.
Thor Premiers (2011)
On this day in 2011, Thor premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.
The newest Marvel film starred Chris Hemsworth as the titular character.
Disney’s Polynesian Resort Name Changed (2014)
Finally, on this day in 2014, Disney’s Polynesian Resort reverted back to the name “Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort”.
The resort had been called Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort when it opened in 1971
