This Day in Disney History- April 21
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- April 21.
April 21st was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the release of a Mickey cartoon, the launch of a Disney imprint, and the launch of a Downtown Disney attraction. So, let’s get started
Just Mickey Released (1930)
On this day in 1930, the Mickey Mouse cartoon Just Mickey was released,
The cartoon featured Mickey performing “Traumerei” the finale to the William Tell Overture.
Contrary Condor Released (1944)
On this day in 1944, the Donald Duck short The Contrary Condor was released.
The cartoon features Donald mountain climbing in the Andes, where he is taken under the wing of a mother condor.
Believe You Can…and You Can! Airs (1982)
On this day in 1982, “Believe You Can… and You Can!” aired.
The TV special showcased the New Fantasyland in Disneyland.
The Timekeeper Goes Seasonal (2001)
On this day in 2001, the Timekeeper was designated as a seasonal attraction.
The show would eventually close on
Apple and Disney Reach Agreement (2004)
On this day in 2004, Apple Computers reached an agreement with Disney’s Buena Vista Music Group.
The agreement allowed Apple’s iTunes Music Store to carry soundtracks of Disney films.
Disneynature Launched (2008)
On this day in 2008, Disney announced the launch of Disneynature.
The new imprint was described as “a prestigious new production banner that will literally go to the ends of the earth to produce major big-screen nature documentaries.”. The new production company followed in the footsteps of Disney’s “True-Life Adventures”.
Characters in Flight Opens (2009)
On this day in 2009, Characters in Flight had its Grand Opening at Downtown Disney.
The new helium-filled balloon ride takes guests 400 feet above Walt Disney World.
Disney Previews Kidani Village (2009)
Also on this day in 2009, Disney had an “Open Mouse” for Cast Members to preview Kidani Village at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.
The new DVC property housed more than 300 villas and allowed guests to get amazing views of over 30 species of wildlife.
Born in China Released (2017)
On this day in 2017, the Disneynature documentary Born in China was released.
The film showcased a panda bear and her cub, a young golden monkey, and a mother snow leopard.
