The Mandalorian Introduces a New, Yet Familiar, Character
Chapter 23 of The Mandalorian finally brought together all of the disparate pieces of the series’ third season.
After weeks of hinting, the show finally revealed that Moff Gideon has indeed escaped New Republic prosecution, and is working in conjunction with the Shadow Council to reassert Imperial control over the galaxy.
The mysterious conglomerate of former Imperial officers has been flying under the radar of the New Republic, while waiting for the re-emergence of Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Another Hux?
While most of the council members were new additions to the Star Wars Universe, one name should have rang a bell for Star Wars fans- Commandant Hux.
The shadowy Imperial figure is the father of General Hux, who was portrayed by Domhnall Gleeson in the sequel trilogy.
While General Hux was a pompous leader in the First Order, who was eventually killed for trying to take down Kylo Ren, his father seems to be an ex-Imperial, who will help bridge the gap between the Empire and First Order.
Also interesting, is the revelation that Commandant Hux is hard at work on “Project Necromancer” which may involve cloning. Could this be the groundwork for Emperor Palpatine’s return in The Last Jedi?
A Family Affair
In the latest Mandalorian episode, Commandant Brendol Hux was portrayed by Gleeson’s brother Brian. Both actors are sons of Academy Award-nominated actor Brendan Gleeson.
Getting Brian Gleeson to portray the father of General Hux, was a deft move by The Mandalorian producers. The lineage further cements The Mandalorian’s place as a bridge between the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy.
