Dave Filoni’s Star Wars Film Will Explore the New Republic, Bring Together The ‘Mando-Verse’
While the biggest news to come out of Star Wars Celebration 2023 was the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker, the other bombshell announcement revolved around Disney’s popular Star Wars series.
As part of the presentation on future feature films, Kathleen Kennedy announced a new Star Wars film would be directed by Dave Filoni, and would serve as a culmination of the Mando-Verse.

Specifically, Filoni will bring together characters from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and possibly even the upcoming Skeleton Crew series, to tell a larger story.
An Exploration of The New Republic
Details remain sparse about what the film will entail. Recently, however, Dave Filoni did sit down to give his insight into his vision.

When it comes to the plot of Filoni’s Star Wars venture, all we know for sure is that it will be set during the New Republic era. With Grand Admiral Thrawn set to make his live-action debut in Ahsoka, however, it seems likely that the Imperial leader could serve as the film’s antagonist.

Here is what Filoini had to say about the film:
“With The Mandalorian, we got little glimpses of what’s happening politically in the New Republic. But when you’re dealing with characters like Ahsoka and Sabine and Hera and Mon Mothma, you’re dealing with a much higher level of politics in the Star Wars world.

“And so as those stories get to be explored more, there’s opportunities for bigger culminations. These are happening on the big screen where you can present things that are more challenging on the small screen.”
The Film Conclude Disney’s Streaming Series?
While Filoni’s Star Wars film was called a “culmination” when it was announced, that does not necessarily mean that Disney’s streaming series will end.

Jon Favreau, the mastermind behind The Mandalorian and its related series, also noted that the future remains open for many of the characters.
“So as long as we fit within the stories – and now we’re telling stories like Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew and The Book of Boba Fett all in the same time period – but if we can manage to weave between these stories, as we’re doing with a tremendous amount of coordination, there’s the opportunity for these stories to go on.

“It’s not public knowledge what has happened to these characters, we just know that we haven’t seen them in the sequels and so I think there’s a lot of opportunity for these characters to go on for quite some time.”
What About Grogu
Last but not least, any conversation involving The Mandalorian would be incomplete without a Grogu update. So do the Star Wars honchos think Grogu will make his big-screen debut?

“I don’t know what I can talk about yet,” said Favreau. “But certainly everything is being discussed.”

I guess we will have to wait and see.
