What Else Is Fun to Do at Magic Kingdom?
About a year ago, I posted a list of fun things to do at Magic Kingdom.
At the time, I always intended it to be a multi-part article, but Disney got exciting in other ways. So, I never got around to part two…until now!
Here are several other things that are ridiculously fun to do at Magic Kingdom!
Meet Mickey Mouse!
Disney designs Magic Kingdom in a way that gets the point across about what you should expect here.
When you enter Main Street U.S.A, you’re right beside Town Square Theater, which is Disney’s way of hinting at what you should do first.

Turn right and walk into this building so that you can meet the mouse who started it all.
You’ll soon discover that Mickey is a dapper dresser and a friendly host. He’ll welcome you with a smile, entertain you with his antics, and make you feel like a comfortable guest in his home.

Meeting Mickey Mouse always sets the perfect tone for a Magic Kingdom day!
Visit all the mountains!

We’re currently down a mountain right now, but that won’t last for long. Tiana’s Bayou Journey will replace Splash Mountain at some point next year.
Until then, three-quarters of the Mountain Challenge remains, and it’s a joy to attempt!

You’ll complete this test of Disney fandom once you’ve ridden Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and Space Mountain.
All three roller coasters are among the best in the south, yet each one resides only a short walk from the others.

You’ll have such a blast picking the order in which you attack the Mountain Challenge!
Stop Emperor Zurg

As far as villains go, Emperor Zurg’s strategy feels a bit confusing. On the one hand, he wants to enslave the galaxy.
On the other hand, his tactics for achieving his goal seem…convoluted.

During Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, you can stop Emperor Zurg from attaining intergalactic domination by…shooting batteries?
Apparently, Zurg’s research department has determined that The Little Green Men’s technology employs “crystallic fusion cells.”
These space batteries can also power Zurg’s entire space fleet. So, you must shoot the batteries (?!) to save the day.
I question some of the science here, which feels underwritten for a 1950s film co-starring a dog wearing an astronaut helmet and hanging from a wire.

Still, I cannot deny the thrill of aiming at literally hundreds of battery targets and, in my case, missing them all.
Live Out a Fantasy

One of the darkest times during the pandemic was when Disney couldn’t host the Festival of Fantasy Parade.
Park officials did what they could, and I admittedly fell in love with Cavalcades.

However, those mini-parades are more like appetizers. The Festival of Fantasy Parade is the whole meal, including the appetizers.
Disney characters stroll down the streets and remind fans of why we love them.

The highlight of the whole thing occurs when Maleficent rolls down Main Street, U.S.A., breathing fire the whole way.
If you’ve never seen this show in person, you’re cheating yourself. You can feel the temperature increase as Maleficent approaches!
Laugh with Mike Wazowski and Friends

Few people would name Monsters University as their favorite Pixar film, but its release has come with a fringe benefit.
Disney has modernized Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor with Monsters University characters, which somehow makes it more charming, especially for kids.

The ridiculous-looking monsters add to the entertainment value of what is essentially an improv comedy routine.
Cast members employ a general script for the show’s structure, but much of what happens during the attraction is totally improvised on the spot.

Disney hires its best, brightest, and funniest to provide the quips that entertain Disney fans of all ages. They’ll have you in stitches throughout the show.
Listen to Several Men Named Dan
As Bart Simpson says, “Barbershop (Quarter)? That ain’t been popular since aught-six, dagnabbit.”
The oddly wise 10-year-old makes an excellent point here, but that’s the glory of Main Street, U.S.A.
All the genteel memories from past generations mesh together for a singular throwback nostalgic experience here…and the Dapper Dans are essential to it.
These harmonious singers perform several Disney classics by crooning along sans musical accompaniment.
The catchy singalong tunes have stood the test of time for a reason. They’re unforgettable songs with killer hooks.
You can’t help but smile and tap your toes as the Dapper Dans do their thing.
Always take the time to listen when you notice these nattily attired individuals getting ready to perform.
Groan at Bad Puns
I’m obsessed with some Disney trivia items, and one of my favorites involves Jungle Cruise.
When Walt Disney commissioned this attraction, he had no inclination of turning the experience into a joke.

Jungle Cruise
In Uncle Walt’s mind’s eye, this exotic tour of various international jungles would mesmerize guests with its realism.
Alas, reality comes at you fast in life. Within a few years of Jungle Cruise’s opening, guests were as likely to mock the script as enjoy it.
Soon, a few daring cast members did the unthinkable. They directly disobeyed Walt Disney’s directive by adding their own quips.
These Cruise Skippers reset the fate of Jungle Cruise by providing a new identity for what was otherwise too silly a ride concept.
Now, bad puns define Jungle Cruise, and I mean that in the best possible way. We ride for the script inasmuch as the detailed, thematic sets.
Ride a Train
In December 2018, the Walt Disney World Railroad closed for what Disney anticipated to be a year or two.
Park officials needed to lay the track for the upcoming Tomorrowland roller coaster, Tron Lightcycle / Run.

What nobody could have anticipated was the Coronavirus pandemic, which would disrupt park operations for more than two years.
The unfortunate byproduct of this change involved delays with the railroad’s reopening. It would remain offline for almost exactly four years.

Thankfully, the Walt Disney World Railroad is open, and it has caused Disney fans to appreciate how absence truly does make the heart grow fonder.
See Donald Get His Comeuppance
I’m devout in my belief that Mickey’s PhilharMagic is a top ten attraction at Magic Kingdom.
This mini-movie offers everything a Disney fan could want. It plays several of your favorite scenes from beloved Disney animated classics.

Photo: Disney
All the while, Disney injects Donald Duck into the proceedings to tell a larger story about the dangers of messing with a Sorcerer’s Hat.
In the end, Donald gets his fitting comeuppance. And you’ll laugh at everything that happens to him from start to finish.

In a way, Mickey’s PhilharMagic embodies Disney’s perfect show-based attraction. It tells a decidedly Disney story using film highlights and Donald Duck shenanigans.
I consider this show one of the most entertaining things to do at Magic Kingdom, a park overflowing with fun activities.
