Katee Sackhoff Talks Bo-Katan’s Journey and Making The Jump To Live-Action
One of the coolest things about seeing Bo-Katan make the leap from animation to live-action was that Katee Sackhoff got to continue to portray the character.
After voicing the Mandalorian princess in the animated series The Clone Wars and Rebels, Sackhoff was given the rare chance to portray her character in live action, when Bo-Katan appeared in The Mandalorian season 2.
Making the Transition
Luckily, Sackhoff had a long career in live-action, appearing in such series as Battlestar Galactica, making the transition that much easier for her.
“I take into consideration that I, for the bulk of my career, have not been out making period rom-coms. To a certain extent, I have played characters that are very similar to Bo-Katan, so I do understand how the transition was easier to imagine,” Sackhoff told The Hollywood Reporter.
So far in The Mandalorian season 3, Bo-Katan has taken center stage. The former ruler of Mandalore not only returned to her home planet, but while in the midst of saving Din from drowning in the Living Waters, she even glimpsed the fable mythosaur.
Bo-Katan’s Journey
In Chapter 19 of The Mandalorian, Kryze was welcomed into the Children of the Watch, the Mandalorian cult that Din Djarin belongs to.
When talking about her character’s newfound acceptance, Sackhoff was optimistic about Bo-Katan’s future.
“The idea that these people accept her with open arms is intriguing to her. I also don’t know if Bo has ever felt so readily accepted by anyone, and in her mind, she’s probably thinking that this might work.”
A More Cautious Character
While we will have to wait and see how Bo-Katan’s story unfolds, one thing is clear — she is taking things slowly. After falling from grace on Mandalore, watching the death of her sister, and the eventual destruction of her planet, Bo-Katan has become much more cautious. This new hesitancy could be why she has failed to mention the mythosaur to anyone, even Din.
“I think she’s concerned that she’s going to sound crazy. She literally saw the symbol of her people that she thought was a metaphor. Is she going crazy all of a sudden? She was just under extreme circumstances, so she could have imagined it. And I don’t think that she’s ready to risk that yet for a person that she doesn’t really know, so I just think she’s trying to figure out what that means right now.”
Bo-Katan’s journey will continue when The Mandalorian Chapter 20 debuts on March 22, streaming exclusively on Disney+.
