If You’re Planning a Trip to Disneyland This is the One Souvenir You Can’t Leave Without
There are an unlimited amount of collectibles fans can take home from Disney Parks. But, if you’re planning a trip to Disneyland, this is the one souvenir you can’t leave without!
Silhouette Studio
The Silhouette Studio may occupy a tiny piece of Disneyland, but its story is momentous. A fixture of the Park since a day after Disneyland Resort’s debut, it opened on July 18, 1955.
Talk about an original! Those looking to take home a piece of Disney history can do so with a portrait from the iconic Silhouette Studio!
Located on Main Street, U.S.A. between Crystal Arts and China Closet, you may accidentally pass it by. A hidden gem, it’s a tiny shop, yet its featured product takes incredible skill and has quite an interesting history!
Hand-Cut Silhouettes
Growing up, I remember seeing a hand-cut silhouette of my parents displayed in our home. When I got my Annual Pass to Disneyland, this nostalgic piece of art was one of the first things I picked up.
Cast Members at the Silhouette Studio are trained in the art of silhouette cutting. Silhouette artists take special care to turn Guests’ profiles into special mementos, and they do it in roughly a minute’s time!
But where did this interesting art form originate? Several years ago, Disney Parks Blog shared that the hand-cut silhouettes “are a product of a rare trade dating back to the salons of France in the 1700s!”
Disney Parks recently posted a TikTok video of an artist hard at work, creating a unique silhouette that included a Guest’s furry friend! Using a picture for reference, she carefully snipped their portraits.
After cutting the silhouettes, they’re placed together on a special, Disneyland background that can be framed. I still have mine from many years ago, and treasure it greatly!
Next time you visit Disneyland Resort, make sure to peek through the window to watch artists create this unique collectible. It’s the one souvenir you shouldn’t leave the Park without!
