Disney Truths Stranger Than Fiction
Sometimes, truth is stranger than fiction.
That philosophy never proves more accurate than with Disney theme parks and stories, which already blur the line between what’s real vs. what’s fake.
Sometimes, Disney’s immersion works to its disadvantage, as some company facts sound entirely made up.
Here are some Disney truths that sound entirely fictional.
Disney Sells a $100 Sandwich
When Disney California Adventure finally opened Avengers Campus, it established a new standard for theme park immersion.
Various Avengers characters wander around this themed land, interacting with guests. There’s even a Spider-Man Audio-Animatronic capable of jumping vast distances.
Still, something else garnered as much attention as the park’s newest ride, WEBSLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure.
Guests experienced a shock when they visited Pym Test Kitchen, a restaurant that plays with the premise of scale.
Hank Pym, the Avenger who invented Pym Particles, recognized the hidden power of size.
As the original Ant-Man in the comics, Pym could shrink to the size of an ant. Over the years, Ant-Man also developed the ability to grow.
Captain America: Civil War revealed this talent during the legendary airport scene, as Pym’s protégé, Scott Lang, expanded to the size of an airplane.
Pym Test Kitchen adopts this approach with its foods. Some of them are tiny in size, while others prove gigantic.
Specifically, Disney sells a sandwich called the Family-sized Pym-ini. It’s incomprehensibly big and serves as many as eight guests.
This sandwich costs $99.99, which makes it about $12.50 per person when a group shares it. But if you’re feeling ambitious, you can buy this sandwich for yourself.
One Disney Dinner costs $15,000
During the final years of Walt Disney’s life, he spent so much time at the parks that he desired a home there.
Park officials built a hidden apartment above Pirates of the Caribbean. In a different world, Walt and Lillian Disney would have spent many nights there.
Sadly, Uncle Walt developed cancer and died before his cast members could finish the apartment.
Over the years, this space languished as nobody could decide the best approach for the Disney family apartment that never was.
For a time, Disney hosted a gallery here, but then it evolved into a unique offering.
The Disneyland Dream Suite provided some lucky Disney fans with a chance to spend the night in the Pirates of the Caribbean building.
Eventually, management decided it should monetize this space. It had somehow become more exclusive than Club 33.
Enter Royal 21.
Disney describes this dining experience as allowing fans to “add your own chapter to the residence’s storied history and carry forth the spirit of Walt and Lillian’s enduring vision.”
How much does chapter-adding cost? A lot.
Prices start at $15,000 per meal and increase from there, depending on when you visit.
Even more remarkably, the place regularly books months in advance.
In the video I linked, the diner mentions that only a few days at Royal 21 remain available for the next six months!
People happily pay $15,000 to eat a meal in the apartment built for Walt and Lillian Disney!
The Santa Claus Hyped a Phone Sex Number
Here’s perhaps the best example of truth being stranger than fiction.
I realize that header sounds ridiculous, but it is 100 percent true.
Comedian Tim Allen sometimes added a bit of improv to his dialogue when he was on set.
During the filming of the original The Santa Claus, Allen joked about a seemingly fake phone number.
Alas, the joke was on him, as he accidentally encouraged viewers to dial a VERY REAL phone number, one that happened to be a phone sex line.
Nobody at Disney ever researched this beforehand. So, the film’s producers were as surprised as anybody when The Santa Claus debuted in theaters.
The movie became an instant blockbuster, and a few people went home and curiously tried the phone number in question.
Those were probably very expensive phone calls. Disney removed this line of dialogue from The Santa Claus’ home video release.
Similarly, you won’t find the joke on Disney+. However, the hilarious mishap came up again when Disney+ released The Santa Clauses during 2022.
I won’t link the scene for obvious reasons, but you can find it on TikTok and various video sites if you’re good at googling.
Theme Parks Receive the Same Protection as the White House
Okay, this statement is absolutely true, but it only applies to one specific area of protection.
Both of Disney’s American theme parks, Disneyland and Walt Disney World, possess no-fly zone status.
These are permanent flight restrictions that the federal government brought into law in 2014.
While nobody ever clarified the reason for the order, the Disney parks join locations like the White House and the Kennedy Space Center as no-fly zones.
The Federal Aviation Administration has added a few caveats to make the restrictions more palatable for the government and local residents.
For example, all Department of Defense aircraft may fly through this area.
Similarly, medivacs can request flights to ensure a direct path for emergency health issues.
Finally, Disney itself can fly aircraft thanks to a special waiver. But you’ll never notice another plane around Disney theme parks for this reason.
You may witness the Blue Angels performing above the castle at times, though!
There’s a Private Suite inside Cinderella Castle
I mentioned that Disneyland formerly hid a secret suite at Pirates of the Caribbean. What you may not know is that it wasn’t the only one.
You’ll find the only remaining suite of its kind at Cinderella Castle. Even $15,000 won’t allow you to sleep there, though.
Disney utilizes this room, the Cinderella Castle Suite, as an exclusive access incentive…of some sort.
Nobody is quite sure what the rules are for earning a stay here. Hotel suites don’t come any more exclusive than that.
However, we do know that Disney frequently gives away nights/weeks in the Cinderella Castle Suite as prizes and rewards.
You can find a gallery of this suite on Disney’s official site. Here’s a 2022 video of an influencer who stayed here:
As the video mentions, up to four guests can stay in Disney’s most exclusive suite at a time.
In this instance, someone won a contest and invited their favorite influencer to join them.
In short, if Disney doesn’t ask you, you don’t win a contest or receive an invitation from someone who does, you’re never staying here.
Few people even believe this suite exists!
