Dana Walden and Alan Bergman Appear With Bob Iger at the Academy Awards
When Bob Iger finally laid out his long anticipated restructuring of the Walt Disney Company, a ton of attention was paid to ESPN becoming its own department, and the 7,000 layoffs that accompanied the new corporate structure.
While both of those developments were big news, they may have missed the biggest story. The announcement that may have the biggest ramification for the future of the Walt Disney Company was that Dana Walden and Alan Bergman were given the title of co-chairman of Disney Entertainment.
The Future Of Disney
Both longtime Disney employees not only survived the corporate restructuring that led to the dismissal of many other executives, but the duo also put themselves in prime position to be candidates to succeed Bob Iger as the company’s next CEO.
According to insiders, Bergman and Walden are on a short list of potential candidates for Disney’s top position. The list also includes fellow department heads Josh D’Amaro, Jimmy Pitaro, and even NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
A Picture Says 1000 Words
At the 95th Oscar Awards, Walden and Bergman appeared on the red carpet alongside current CEO Bob Iger.
While their inclusion in Hollywood’s biggest night is not surprising, it did give Disney fans a snapshot of the current company leadership together.
In fact, the photo of the trio on the red carpet may not only be symbolic of the current state of the company, but also its future.
With Bob Iger set to step down in two years, both Bergman and Walden will help to shape the future of the Walt Disney Company. If they are successful at running Disney entertainment over the next two years (not an easy task), one of them could write their name in Disney history.
