Welcome back to our continuing journey through Disney’s past. Today we are looking at events on this day in Disney history- March 12!
March 12 was a turbulent day in Disney history. The company had the release of a Roger Rabbit cartoon, the opening of a new land in the Magic Kingdom, and the closure of Disneyland.
The Flying Jalopy Released (1943)
On this day in 1943. the Donald Duck cartoon The Flying Jalopy was released.
In this cartoon Donald buys a rundown plane from Ben Buzzard. The shady salesman tries to sabotage the plane for the insurance money.
A Tiger Walks Released (1964)
On this day in 1964, A Tiger Walks was released.
The film told the story of a mistreated Bengal Tiger who escaped form a traveling circus.
Trail Mix-Up Released (1993)
On this day in 1993, the Roger Rabbit short Trail Mix-Up played ahead of A Far off Place.
In the film, Roger Rabbit must save Baby Herman from a dangerous sawmill.
Storybook Circus Soft Opens (2012)
On this day in 2012, Storybook Circus soft opened in the Magic Kingdom.
As part of the preview, The Barnstormer Starring the Great Goofini, The Fantasyland Train Station, and one of the two Dumbo the Flying Elephants opened.
Disneyland Closes (2020)
On this day in 2020, Disney announced that Disneyland would be closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The resort closed for the first time since the September 11 attacks, and for just the third time in its 65 years history.
Rivers of Lift and Fantasmic Close (2020)
Also on this day 2020, Rivers of Light and Fantasmic! temporarily closed.
The two nighttime spectaculars were closed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
