Genie+ System Down at Walt Disney World
UPDATE Thursday, March 9, 2023 8:40 am: We can confirm that after being down this morning for over an hour, the Genie+ system appears to be up and running again for Guests at Walt Disney World.
Purchased the Genie+ this morning at Walt Disney World and not able to use it? You are not alone! MickeyBlog can confirm that the system is experiencing issues preventing Guests from selecting their Genie+ Lightning Lane reservations.

The madness started this morning at 7 am when Guests who purchased the Genie+ add-on option for their tickets were not allowed to pick their first Genie+ Lightning Lane reservation. Guests confirmed that the charge for the Genie+ had hit their bank account but when they went to select the Lightning Lane in their My Disney Experience app, they received an error that the Genie+ had not yet been purchased.
When the Genie+ system is not down, Walt Disney World Guests can purchase the Genie+ park ticket add-on starting at 12:01 am each day they are visiting the parks. Then, starting at 7 am, Guests can pick their first Genie+ Lightning Lane reservation. From there, Guests can select new Genie+ Lightning Lane reservations every two hours or when they “scan in” for the reservation they already booked.

It’s important to note that Walt Disney World offers two types of Lightning Lanes. The first is the Genie+ Lightning Lanes that are offered for pretty much 98% of all the attractions in each Walt Disney World Theme Park.
The second type of Lightning Lane offered is Individual Lightning Lanes. These are offered for the top-tier attraction or attractions in each park such as Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Guardians of the Galaxy in EPCOT. At this time, we are trying to confirm if Individual Lightning Lanes are down as well as the Genie+ Lightning Lanes. Stay tuned!

We can confirm, though, that Disney is aware of the outage. Their best advice: keep refreshing the My Disney Experience app until the system is up and running again. As a Travel Agent, I am doing just that so I can let my clients who are in the parks today know as soon as the system is back up so they can get the first crack at making those all-important Genie+ Lightning Lane selections!
