Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- February 18.
February 18th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the release of a Mickey cartoon, a new fireworks show at Disneyland, at the premiere of a Disney/Pixar release. So, let’s get started!
Mickey’s Pal Pluto Released (1933)
On this day in 1933, the Mickey Mouse cartoon Mickey’s Pal Pluto was released.
Directed by Burt Gillet, the film tells the story of Pluto, who rescues kittens from drowning, only to be jealous when Mickey welcomes them inside.
Trombone Trouble Released (1944)
On this day in 1944, Trombone Trouble was released.
Directed by Jack King, in the cartoon Pete’s trombone playing is so bad that the god’s call Donald in to help. Unfortunately he is even worse.
Lion King Released On VHS (1995)
On this day in 1995, The Lion King was released on videocassette.
The VHS release was a massive success, with the film selling 20 million copies in its first week.
Believe… There’s Magic In The Stars Debuts (2000)
On this day in 2000, “Believe…There’s Magic in the Stars” debuted at Disneyland.
The fireworks show was created especially for Disneyland’s 45th anniversary.
Onward Premiers (2020)
Finally, on this day in 2020, Onward had its world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre.
The newest film from Disney and Pixar, the film starred Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Wilmer Valderrama and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
