Disney Debuts “Hey Disney” at CES
Disney’s new voice assistant “Hey, Disney” made its debut at CES this, and people are impressed!
First announced in 2021, “Hey Disney!” is the first voice assistant created using the Alexa Custom Assistant Voice AI Foundation. That program allows third parties to create custom voice assistants that coexist with Alexa on Echo speakers.
Disney plans to implement the smart speakers in all of its Walt Disney World hotel rooms. Currently however, “Hey Disney” is only available at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort as part of the rollout.
Once installed in Disney’s hotels, the voice assistant will be able to help with in-room requests, tell guests bus times and park hours, or help chose their next Disney meal!
Eventually, Disney is expected to add Echo Show 5 devices to more than 30,000 on-property rooms in order to facilitate the use of “Hey Disney”.
Bring the Magic Home
Disney also plans to allow users to bring the Magical Companion home, as “Hey Disney” will be available in the Alexa Skill store at some point in 2023. An exact date has yet to be announced.
While at home, “Hey Disney” will be able to perform daily functions such as setting a timer or reading the weather, while also adding a splash of Disney magic to your everyday life.
When using the voice assistant, various Disney characters will play games, tell stories and answer questions. All in the comfort of your own home. Disney has promised that it will continue to add skills to the service as it develops.
While pricing for “Hey Disney” is yet to be announced, it will come free with an Amazon Kids Plus subscription. I for one can’t wait to try it!
