This Day in Disney History- January 2
Welcome back to our continuing trip through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- January 2.
January 2nd featured the release of a new Mickey cartoon, the closure of a Disneyland classic and the debut of a new Walt Disney World parade! So, let’s get going!
The Worm Turns Released (1937)
On this day in 1937, the Mickey Mouse cartoon The Worm Turns was released.
In the cartoon, chemist Mickey creates a super strength potion, turning the food chain upside down!
Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland Closes (1977)
On this day in 1977, the Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland closed at Disneyland.
Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland originally opened in 1960. The attraction would eventually be replaced by Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
Dumbo’s Circus Parade Debuts (1979)
On this day in 1979, the Dumbo’s Circus Parade was performed for the first time at Walt Disney World.
The circus came to Main Street USA for this Dumbo themed parade. The procession would run daily until finally closing in December of 1979.
Astuter Computer Revue Closes (1984)
On this day in 1984, The Astuter Computer Revue, closed at EPCOT Center.
The first attraction to close at Walt Disney World’s second park, the Astuter Computer Revue would eventually be replaced by Backstage Magic in February of 1984.
Disney Previews the Grand Californian Hotel (2001)
Finally, on this day in 2001, Disney unveiled the Grand Californian Hotel for a special guest preview.
Disneyland’s newest hotel is housed inside Disney’s California Adventure. It will eventually have its Grand Opening in February 2001.
