This Day in Disney History: December 29
Welcome back to our continuing trip through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- December 29.
As with the rest of this week, December 29 was a slow Disney news day. Despite this, a monumental event in popular culture took place at Walt Disney World, we lost a great animator, and we had a Donny Osmond sighting! Let’s get into it.
Vladimir “Bill” Tytla Passes Away (1968)
On this day in 1968, Vladimir “Bill” Tytla passed away at age 64.
Tylta was one of the original Disney animators, whose work included Chernaog in the “Night at Bald Mountain” sequence in Fantasia, Grumpy in Snow and the Seven Dwarfs and Baby Dumbo in Dumbo.
John Lennon Dissolves the Beatles (1972)
On this day in 1972, John Lennon officially dissolved the Beatles while staying at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
Lennon is Walt Disney World on vacation with his on Julian and “friend” May Pang. The documents needed to officially break up the Beatles were brought down to Florida for Lennon to approve.
Donny Osmond Visits Disney’s Animal Kingdom (2006)
On this day in 2006, Donny Osmond appeared at Disney Outfitters.
The singer did a personal appearance at the Disney’s Animal Kingdom shop, where he signed copies of the Mulan DVD and soundtrack. Osmond was the singing voice of Shang in the film.
That’s the end of this day in Disney history- December 29. While it may have been a sparse day historically, be sure you come back tomorrow to see what happens next!
