As “Don’t Say Gay” Bill Gets Signed Into Law, Disney Calls For Repeal
This week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis officially signed the state’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill into law. If you’ve been following along with the news, you’ll know that The Walt Disney Co. received a lot of criticism for their handling of the legislation. Many cast members were vocal about the fact that they felt that Disney should have done more in speaking out against the bill.
After the fact, Disney did release an official statement showing their disapproval for the bill but many felt that it was to little too late. Now that the bill has been signed, the company was quick to right its previous wrongs and was quick to issue a statement calling for the bill’s repeal.
Check out Disney’s official tweet below:

As you can see from the post above, the statement reads, “Florida’s HB 1557, also known as the “Don’t Say Gay Bill” should never have passed and should never be signed into law.” The tweet continues, “Our goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts, we remain committed to supporting the national and state organizations working to achieve that.” The message concludes “We are dedicated to standing up for the rights and safety of LGBTQ+ members of the Disney family as well as the LGBTQ+ community in Florida and across the country.
For those unfamiliar, the bill is officially titled “Parental Rights in Education” bill which limits the discussion of sexuality and gender identity in schools. Provisions of the bill allow parents to sue if they allege schools or instructors have been in violation of this rule. Many of those concerned about the bill argue that its vague nature could have a larger impact beyond the schools.
This is a story that is just developing and we expect more details soon. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with us here at MickeyBlog for further Walt Disney World news and updates.
