‘LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy’ Coming to Disney+ — Featuring Darth Jar Jar
Two days after May the 4th, Disney+ announced a new four-part series titled LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy is coming to Disney+ this September.
The new Star Wars animated special will follow “the journey of an ordinary nerf-herder, Sig Greebling (Gaten Matarazzo), who discovers a powerful artifact in a hidden Jedi temple. This discovery thrusts him into a twisted version of the galaxy, where familiar roles are reversed, and Sig must become the hero to restore order,” according to the official synopsis.
LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy features a star-studded voice cast that includes Star Wars legends Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks) and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker). Joining them will be Gaten Matarazzo (Sig Greebling), Tony Revolori (Dev Greebling), Bobby Moynihan (Jedi Bob), Marsai Martin (Yesi Scala), Michael Cusack (Servo).
Darth Jar Jar?!
Along with today’s announcement, Disney+ released a new teaser trailer for the upcoming special. Perhaps the biggest revelation from the clip is that Best will be portraying Darth Jar Jar, a Sith Lord version of the iconic prequel character.
The idea that Jar Jar Binks could secretly have been a Sith Lord has been a popular fan theory for years.
Lucasfilm and LEGO Continue to Make Magic
The latest animated series is just the latest in a long line of collaborations between Lucasfilm and LEGO.
“It’s hard to believe that it’s been 25 years since the ground-breaking collaboration between Lucasfilm and The LEGO Group began,” executive producer James Waugh said in a statement.
“In that time, LEGO Star Wars has given our fans the unique power to unlock their imaginations and play with the galaxy’s elements in any way they can conceive … and build. It’s with that playful spirit in mind that we set out to Rebuild the Galaxy like never before. Tapping into the comedic genius of Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, two of the most talented comedy writers I’ve had the fortune of working with, we’ve mixed and matched LEGO sets to snap together Imperial X-fighters, Rebel TIE-wings, and yes, even Darth Jar Jar.”
“This four-piece special is a celebration of all things Star Wars, LEGO, and the incredible explorations that can only happen when these two amazing brands come together,” he concluded.
