BREAKING NEWS: All Aboard! The Walt Disney World Railroad is Back at the Magic Kingdom
We are so excited to share the news that the Walt Disney World Railroad is back in service. We got word this morning that the beloved Disney World attraction has reopened as of this morning and we rushing over to go for a ride!
As you can see from disneyworld.com, the hours are now posted online.
As you can see the Walt Disney World Railroad is running today from 10am – 6pm.
The railroad features four meticulously restored, vintage narrow-gauge steam trains carriages – originally built between 1916 – 1928.
There are three stations at the Magic Kingdom with stops at:
- The park’s front entrance (Main Street U.S.A)
- The Frontierland Station
- The Fantasyland Station
The entire ride around the outskirts of the Magic Kingdom takes 20 minutes.
The 1.5 mile route now also includes a brand-new tunnel that has been built into the TRON Coaster.

Here we are waiting anxiously as the Walt Disney World Railroad pulls into Main Street Station.
All the Christmas decorations add an extra element of magic for the big reopening.
Here we are on the raised station platform looking out over the crowds arriving at the theme parks.

Word didn’t seem to be out yet regarding the reopening.
There was a bit of a crowd lined up to come aboard.
New cast members have spent the last few weeks training for the reopening.
The train itself was looking absolutely magnificent.
Walt had a life-long passion for steam trains and this attraction brings his dream to life.
The Walt Disney World Railroad builds on the success of the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad which has been a beloved attraction since the park first opened in 1955.

It’s been at least two years since we’ve been aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad that we forgot what incredible views you get of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
It’s a great way to check out all of the amazing details that you might miss when on the coaster itself.
One of the highlights of the Walt Disney World Railroad these days is the wonderful views you’ll get of the new TRON Coaster.
Disney has yet to announce an opening date for Tomorrowland’s new coaster.
We’re hoping that now that the railroad is open a TRON Coaster announcement should be coming soon!
The minute you depart from Storybook Circus you can see the indoor portion of the TRON Coaster in the distance.
Scaffolding is still up around the building.
Construction is still underway but its definitely winding down.
As mentioned above, the tracks of the Walt Disney World railroad had to be pulled up while construction was done on the TRON Coaster.
A tunnel was actually built into the construction of the TRON Coaster.
You don’t realize how massive the new coaster is until you are look up from underneath it.
Here’s a closer look at the stunning outdoor canopies that make up the attraction.
The building you see on the right is Space Mountain.
The side of the building that is home to the Light & Power Co gift shop is also being refurbished and a new walkway is being put in between the attractions.
