Eddie Murphy to be Presented with Cecil B. DeMille Award at 2023 Golden Globes
In January, a beloved actor will receive a prestigious honor. Eddie Murphy will be presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2023 Golden Globes!
Cecil B. DeMille Award
Bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment,” the Cecil B. DeMille Award was first presented in 1952. Its name is derived from its first recipient, director Cecil B. DeMille who was honored at the 9th Golden Globe Awards.

DeMille received the award the year his film, The Greatest Show on Earth premiered. In 1953, the honor was bestowed upon Walt Disney.

Eddie Murphy
Iconic actor Eddie Murphy will receive his award at the 80th annual Golden Globes ceremony. Over the years, well-known celebrities such as Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, Oprah Winfrey, and Jane Fonda have also been given the honor.
Eddie Murphy has an extensive career in acting, spurring from his involvement in Saturday Night Live in the 80s. The actor/comedian has received multiple Golden Globe nominations over the years, and won numerous awards.

Disney fans love Murphy’s 1998 portrayal of Mushu in the animated classic, Mulan! He went on to do more voiceover work in a DreamWorks film we all know and love, Shrek.
Recently, Murphy appeared in Disney’s The Haunted Mansion. The actor brought his lighthearted comedy to the ghastly story, making it an entertaining watch.

Golden Globes
Last year, the Golden Globes were canceled due to allegations of racism within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Reportedly, the group of international journalists was not inclusive enough among other complaints.
This year, the ceremony returns to television after the HFPA promised “transformational change,” and better representation. The show wil be hosted by Emmy-winning comedian Jerrod Carmichael, on January 10, on NBC.
