Goofy Head Sells For $19,000 At Auction
A few weeks back I previewed the Exploring the Disney Universe auction from Van Eaton Galleries. At the time I highlighted some of my favorite items from the collection that included memorable from the entirety of the company’s history.
Now that the auction has closed, we can finally see what some of the most expensive items sold for. While some pieces, like the Mary Blair, “it’s a small world” concept art, were expected to sell for a high amount, other items far exceeded the company’s expectations.
On item, that smashed the auction house’s expectations was a Goofy costume head. The pre-auction estimate for the item was $4,000 to $6,000. When all was said an done however, one buyer paid $19,000 for the iconic characters head.
Not that I am one to judge someone’s purchases, but I wonder what the buyer has planned for this piece of Disney history. According to Van Eaton, the head dates back to the 1990s and is “extremely rare”.
While Goofy’s head was the highest selling item from the auction’s Walt Disney World section, it was not the only high priced piece to surpass estimates.
My personal favorite item the Park Hopper character costume, shattered its pre-auction estimate of $1,000 to $2,000. This truly hilarious piece and sold for $3,500!
Likewise, a framed 1971 poster for the Fort Wilderness Campgrounds, exceeded expectations and sold for $2,200.
