Change at Disney Parks Is Uncertain Even With Bob Iger at the Helm
Recently, we shared several things Disney fans want Bob Iger to address at the Parks, per The Washington Post. Despite their various wishes, change at Disney Parks remains uncertain, even with Bob Iger at the company’s helm.
Bob Iger
Katie Dowd makes some valid points in a recent article for SFGATE. When news broke that Chapek was out and Iger was back in, fans got excited at the thought that things may turn around.
Many are assuming their desired changes will eventually occur. Today, MickeyBlog shared news from Iger’s town hall meeting, where he addressed something at the top of several Disney fans’ wish lists.
The Park Pass Reservation System, hated by most, will remain for now. Apparently, he needs more time before making any decisions.
Change at Disney Parks Is Uncertain
If changes do occur, they most likely won’t take place in the near future. In addition to the element of time, there’s also the fact that Bob Chapek’s release had nothing to do with people’s concerns about the Parks, as far as we know.
In reality, his departure was a result of streaming failures. Disney’s streaming platforms lost $1.5 billion last quarter.
Included in the loss are Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. On top of that, news recently surfaced that Chapek was reportedly partaking in deceptive behavior behind the scenes in an effort to conceal bigger losses.
Disney Parks are just one piece of the puzzle. Although many Disney fans look through the lens of the Parks when judging the success of The Walt Disney Company, there are many other aspects at play.
While the Parks do matter, they are not all-encompassing. When looking through the eyes of the company, the Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products division is actually its most successful.
More money is being made per Guest now than ever before. This is due to unfavorable additions such as Genie+.
At Disney’s recent earnings call, fans learned that the division earned almost 2 billion more in revenue last quarter than in the same period last year. With that said, it would be difficult to see why Bob Iger would set any Park related changes in motion.
There are too many other uncertain aspects of the business right now. In addition to streaming failures, Disney is suffering at the box office.
Disney has survived many precarious positions over the years that left the company in poor financial shape. Although it has survived, it’s possible things may never be quite as stellar as they used to be.
For this and all the other reasons mentioned, fans may wish to tread lightly regarding expectations at the Parks. Although Bob Iger continues to be a beacon of hope to the Disney community, change at Disney Parks is uncertain.
