Guess How Much Disney Loses a Day When The Theme Parks Are Closed?
Because of Hurricane Ian, Walt Disney World Resort was forced to shut down on Wednesday and Thursday. As we’ve previously announced, a phased reopening will start tomorrow. But how much of a hit did Disney take as a result of the weather? A recent piece on Fox explored this very question.
According to Market Realist, during the Walt Disney Company’s first quarter, Disney’s parks, experiences and products revenue was an impressive $7.234 billion. It you do the math that equals about $80.38 million per day.
Since reopening post-pandemic, there has been increased consumer demand for theme-park getaways despite fears on Wall Street of a drop in consumer spending due to inflation. While many assumed that when budgets got tight families would skip the expensive family vacations; the opposite actually seems to be true. As outlined in the previous quarterly earnings reports we’ve shared with you, revenue at Disney Parks, Experiences and Products totals $7.4 billion which is up from just $4.3 billion the year before.
So though, Disney undoubtedly took a hit with Hurricane Ian and may continue to do so as it moves through its phased reopening, guests are still showing up. Spending at the the parks is also on the rise!
