‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ Coming in 2024
At D23 this weekend, Disney announced a prequel for the 2019 live action Lion King. Mufasa: The Lion King will premiere in 2024.
The film will follow the rise of Mufasa and how a lion cub who started with nothing came to rule the Pridelands.
Guests at the D23 Expo on Friday were given a sneak peek at the prequel. In the trailer we start at Pride Rock with the voice of Rafiki before panning across the Pridelands.
We get a glimpse of a very young Mufasa being swept away in a flood. The orphaned lion club will be forced to make his own path, alone.
The Mufasa: The Lion King is directed by Barry Jenkins who has a personal connection to the film.
“I had to make this movie,” said Jenkins. “Because when I was 14 I was raising two nephews and there was a VHS tape that we watched about 95 times in the span of two days. I was thinking about Mufasa and how he becomes great… I am not a king, I am not a king… Mufasa is great because of the family and friends he has with him.”
According to Disney, Mufasa: The Lion King will premiere in 2024.
Disney’s D23 Expo will run through Sunday, September 11th in Anaheim. Follow along with us on MickeyBlog.com for the latest news, updates, merchandise and big announcements!
