BREAKING: Disneyland Magic Key Comes Up For Renewal But With Higher Prices More Blackout Dates
Disneyland annual passholders (or Magic Key Holders) will soon be able to renew their annual passes but prices are going up! Disney has posted new rates for the program with tiers going up as much as $200.00 over last year’s pricing.
The Inspire Key which is the top tier membership has gone up from $1399 to $1599.
As a recent piece in the Los Angeles Times tells us, Magic Key membership has gone up as much as 16% and this comes on top of Disney imposing limitations on Christmas visits to passholders.
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you’ll know that Disneyland scrapped their original annual pass program during the COVID-19 shutdown and announced that they would be coming up with a new passholder scheme after the original pass program was blamed for overcrowding at the parks.
The previous incarnations of the annual passes started for as little as $399 per year and went up to $1399 for passes with no blackout dates.
However, Disney seems to be scaling back the number of perks. For instance not only is the top tier known as the Inspire Key going up by $200.00 Membership at this tier does come with some extra perks like unlimited photo downloads and 20% off Disney Genie+ but even those at this top tier level WILL NOT be able to visit the parks from December 21 – January 1st.
Disney insists that passholders will still get to experience the magic of the holiday season….just in November/Early December. Disneyland spokeswoman Suzi Brown said, “We think we have a lot of options for our Magic Key holders to experience.”
The Believe Key has gone up from $949 to $1099 and with it come about 48 block out dates. Similarly, the Enchant Key level has increased from $649 to $699 and will have roughly 149 blackout dates. The Imagine Key which is aimed primarily at Southern California residents has gone up for $399 to $449 and is expected to have around 218 blacked out dates including weekends and summer.
These price increases even though they come with extra perks like photo downloads and Genie+ discounts are now winning over all devoted passholders. As the LA Times tells us, one Disneyland AP-holder sued Disneyland back in December saying that she bought the most expensive pass expecting unlimited access to the park. In the lawsuit the passholder argues that now they are required to make park pass reservations regardless of their pass status. The lawsuit is still ongoing with Disney saying that they will defend against the accusations.
