Walt Disney World Announces Big Changes for Genie+
While Walt Disney World just announced that packages and tickets for 2023 will be available for booking on June 8, 2022, they also announced some other big changes to the Disney Genie+ system.
Currently, Guests looking to use the Genie+ on every day they visit they parks can add the Genie+ option to their tickets ahead of time. However, this will change beginning June 8, 2022 will allow Guests to purchase the Genie+ one day at a time on each morning of their park visit.

In addition, since the Disney Genie and Genie+ was launched back in Fall of 2021, Disney stated that you would not need to worry about the Genie+ option selling out as there would be unlimited availability.
Well, that is about to change too because beginning June 8, 2022, “Guests [who] have an Annual Pass, multi- or single-day ticket, will now purchase Disney Genie+ on the day of their visit via the My Disney Experience app, one day at a time, subject to availability.”

Disney stated, “Given the unique nature and size of Walt Disney World Resort, there have been many considerations that have gone into this update. We’re focused on delivering the best possible guest experience, and this adjustment will help manage the incredibly strong demand our guests have shown for Disney Genie+.”

If you have already purchased your Walt Disney World vacation package or tickets for 2022 with the Genie+ option or if you do so by June 8, 2022; you will not be impacted by these changes.
If you have the Genie+ option already, you will NOT have to purchase it daily nor will you be in jeopardy of not getting access to it.

It is important to note that Guests visiting the Walt Disney World Resort are only impacted by these changes as there are no changes coming to the Genie+ at the Disneyland Resort at this time.
Currently, the Genie+ costs an additional $15 per day per ticket.

This is another terrible decision by Disney for annual passholders. It is difficult enough to have to purchase Genie+ at 7 am the day of your visit, but to possibly be shut out is just not right. It also is so disappointing to look around and see most Disney guests are looking at their phones instead of seeing the wonders of what Walt Disney built. Very disappointing.
So as an Annual Passholder – Disney is messing with my ability to enjoy the parks yet again- I have to purchase Genie on the day of my visit but it might not be available. Ugh 😩
Ramsy, I feel your pain. If I might make a suggestion, you should remember that you can purchase starting at midnight. I find that’s easier than at 6-7 a.m. There’s less congestion on My Disney Experience. So, you get better performance and less aggravation.
I hate the whole Genie+ experience. It was an extra $500 for the three of us for a weeks vacation and some days we could not get more than 2 or 3 lightning lanes. It forces you to be on your phone all day and not enjoying the experience

really?!? it’s not an incredibly strong demand, but rather that you’ve shoehorned us into purchasing Genie+
