Sony Releases Spider-Man NFTS with Early Ticket Sales
Our spidey-senses are tingling! The only thing hotter than Spider-Man right now is cryptocurrency. Theater giant AMC and Sony Pictures Entertainment clearly hope to bottle up some lightning for Marvel fans. The CEO of AMC theatres announced on Twitter yesterday that they were giving Spider-Man NFT’s to the first 86,000 Stubs Premiere members who purchased tickets to “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” While Marvel is no stranger to NFTs, this is AMC’s first venture into the growing market.
Spider-Man fans responded by crashing the servers of almost all major ticket vendors, including AMC. For those lucky people who got through all the crashes and freezes when the sale opened, they will be rewarded with an NFT with more than 100 different designs.
Ownership of the NFT will be recorded on the Ethereum blockchain and can be redeemed after December 22nd. Given the nature of the NFT, it cannot be reproduced and remains a unique item for the rest of human existence. AMC claims to have over 50 million people enrolled in the program, so it is unlikely a person will be able to snag one of these from AMC now. However, people can bet that some of these will show up on NFT marketplaces in the future to add another Disney NFT to any collection.
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” swings into theatres on December 17th. The film returns to the legacy of Spider-Man baddies including Doc Ock and Electro from the Sam Raimi and Marc Webb series of movies. While not officially confirmed, it’s expected Tobey Mcguire and Andrew Garfield will suit up to help the mathematically outmatched Tom Holland fight the multiversal villains. The inclusion of all of these universes will no doubt add to the diversity of NFT artwork provided from this promotion.
NFT-free tickets are still available from all major ticket vendors.
