State of Emergency for Orange County, Florida Expires Today as COVID Cases Plummet
Just moments ago, Jerry Demings; Mayor of Orange County, Florida, announced that the current state of emergency for the county will expire today as the area’s COVID cases have plummeted. Orange Country, Florida is home to most of the Walt Disney World Resort.
To be specific, the state of emergency for Orange County Florida will expire exactly at 3:04 pm.

In today’s press conference, Mayor Demings said the 14-day percent positivity average of COVID cases for Orange County was at 3.51%. Experts consider a positivity average of under 5% as having the pandemic “contained.” Today is actually the 17th day Orange County has been under that important 5% mark.
During the County’s most recent COVID outbreak and state of emergency, masks were not mandated but strongly recommended. With today’s announcement, it will still be up to individual employers.

When it comes to Walt Disney World, masks and face coverings are required by all Guests ages 2 and older in indoor locations regardless of vaccination status. With today’s announcement by Mayor Deming’s, it is probably just a matter of time before the theme park resort goes back to optional masks and face coverings in all areas for those who are vaccinated as was the case back in May of this year.
When Disney allowed masks to be optional again in all areas for those who were fully vaccinated in May, proof of vaccination status was NOT required by Guests. Currently, per the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis’ mandate, it is illegal for businesses to request proof of vaccination.

Mayor Demings stressed today that he hopes to not have to reinstate the state of emergency later during the pandemic but will keep a close eye on date and positivity numbers.
