PHOTOS: Imagineers Installing Landscaping at Cosmic Rewind
With Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebration came the long-anticipated announcement regarding the status of the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction at Epcot. After what’s felt like forever, we finally got word that the construction project will finally end and we will see the opening of Mission Breakout in 2022!
Of course a brand new attraction isn’t built overnight, and Imagineers have been hard at work on the project for years. Beyond the construction walls, we saw Imagineers make a big leap forward with the installation of the area’s trees and surrounding landscaping!
You can see in photos that the palm trees are still tightly wrapped from transportation- all the more reason these plants need all the time they can get to properly grow in.
Horticulture is often one of the first ‘last’ touches to be put on an attraction. When all the heavy machinery and equipment have finished hauling materials to an attraction’s construction site, the very next step is usually landscaping!

Trees, flowers, and greenery in general need time to grow and bloom to give a new area or land a real lived-in feeling. The area surrounding Cosmic Rewind is meant to be created by the citizens of Xandar, so we are expecting this new landscaping to be complete with some very other-worldly plants and trees!

With that 2022 deadline drawing ever closer, crews are still hard at work on the attraction structure too to ensure it’ll be ready for opening day! All in all, the constant buzz around Cosmic Rewind is getting us VERY excited to see the brand new area when it opens next year!
