Splash Mountain Lightning Lane Sign Gets an Upgrade
Disney’s new Genie service and Lightning Lanes open to Guests tomorrow and the parks are putting those final touches on the new signage to make sure the welcome is warm.
The Lightning Lane sign at Splash Mountain got an upgrade overnight!
As a reminder, this is what the sign looked like previously.
The background of the sign was updated from the natural gray wood color to a striking bright blue.
We can’t help but notice how the bright blue background is just a slight color note off from the wooden “Lightning Lane” slab that was installed over the “Fast Pass” lettering. We don’t know if the colors were supposed to match or if this might be a tiny detail that was missed in the paint selection. Disney loves attention to detail so if this was an oversight, we can be sure it doesn’t last long!
Lightning Lanes
“Lightning Lane” is Disney’s new nomenclature for the previously titled Fast Pass lines. These “cut-the-line” queues have been closed since the Covid-19 pandemic closed Walt Disney World in March 2020.
Opinions are mixed on whether fast pass, now Lightning Lanes, should return or not, regardless of their name. (Some feel the additional line feeding into the primary standby line just causes a bottleneck and slows down the works.)
But one thing is for sure, the signs are up and the park is ready. A whole new era starts tomorrow when the new Genie system launches! While the Genie service is a free itinerary planning device built into the My Disney Experience app, an upgrade to Genie+ will allow Guests the ability to utilize those extra queue lines once again!
For $15 per ticket, per day, Guests will be able to schedule a return time to over 40 different park attractions, like Splash Mountain above, using the Genie+ upgrade. Or purchase and schedule Individual Attraction Selections to use at Lightning Lanes for those attractions not included in Genie+.
While there’s a lot of skepticism over the new Genie service and Lightning Lanes, the overall goal is a better Guest experience through crowd management, personalized itineraries, and the use of real time Guest data. And we can’t really argue with that!
