Disney and Scarlett Johansson Reportedly Settle ‘Black Widow’ Lawsuit
After a long, and very public, dispute it appears as though Disney and Scarlett Johansson reportedly settle their tumultuous Black Widow lawsuit outside of court.
The contentious battle has been a prevalent and ongoing issue since the release of Black Widow; with the two parties collaborated efforts and expectations of their contractual commitments appearing to differ upon the film’s release.
As reported by Comicbook.com, the matter, “has come to a close with a joint release from Johansson and Disney making the announcement that the two sides have settled the matter out of court.”
Perhaps the most shocking outcome of the settled dispute is Disney Studios’ content Chairman Alan Bergman confirming that future projects between Disney and Johansson are moving forward.
Regarding the matter, Bergman stated, “I’m very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding Black Widow. We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects including Disney’s Tower of Terror.”
Johansson added to the statement, “I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come.”
The contractual disagreements between the two parties stemmed from Johansson feeling as though Disney’s alterations to the Black Widows distribution model hindered the MCU veteran’s financial recoupment from the film.
With the contract reportedly detailing theater sales as a part of her compensation, Disney altering Black Widow’s release- opting to primarily focus on the arrival of the film on DIsney+ via the Premiere Access package- did in fact impact the actresses potential earnings.
The very public spectacle insight comments from people like Elizabeth Olsen and Benedict Cumberbatch and was not shy to include some very detrimental words exchanged between the two involved.
With news that Disney and Scarlett Johansson settle their dispute, little news has been released on the compromises both sides have made in order to get a deal done, we are excited to see Disney and Johansson continue the partnership that brought us one of pop culture’s most iconic female characters.
