COVID Cases and Hospitalizations Begin to Decline in Orange County and Florida
The Delta variant of COVID-19 has hit Florida hard over the past few months. But, after months of record COVID cases and hospitalizations in Florida and Orange County – home of Walt Disney World, all indicators are pointing towards that this wave has likely peaked.
Twitter user Lauren Seabrook (@LSeabrookWFTV), tweeted earlier this week that many healthy leaders in Orange County, Florida think this trend in numbers is definitely the peak as the rolling positivity rate has decreased from around 20% a few ago and now at 17.86%.

In addition, a few weeks ago, Orange County, Florida was recording 624 cases per 100,000 people in the county. Currently, the county is reporting 544 cases per 100,000 people. The lowest numbers recorded during the entire pandemic was 54 cases per 100,000 people.
NEW: Health leaders believe the surge of Covid-19 has “peaked” in @OrangeCoFL. The rolling positivity rate is down to 17.86% after holding around 20% for a few weeks. Orange also has 544 cases per 100k people right now. The highest was 634 per 100k & the lowest was 54 per 100k.

Some more data that seems to point to a peak of COVID cases and hospitalizations in Florida was tweeted by Twitter user Scott Gustin (@scottgustin) just yesterday. Per reports from the Florida Hospital Association, hospitalization in the state of Florida were down to the lowest number in about three weeks for a total of 14,886. Over the past week alone, hospitalizations in the state of Florida were down 8.8%.

Currently, protocols at Walt Disney World call for masks or face coverings to be worn in all indoor attractions, locations, and on Disney transportation. Earlier this year, Disney rolled back their mask mandate stating that masks were not required for those who were fully-vaccinated anywhere around the resort with the exception of on Disney transportation. Since then, masks were briefly required in all attraction queues but that measure was rolled back for the current policy.
