New Shang-Chi Featurette Teases “Crazy Stuff”
Simu Liu and the cast and crew of the next MCU film talk about the new adventure…
While you were summering, Marvel Studios upped the simmering.
The “sizzle” behind the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe saga film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is red hot.
Marvel’s inimitable Rachel Paige explained:
Though Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legends of the Ten Rings might be part of the early stages of Phase 4, we’re going all the way back to the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with it! As Kevin Feige explains in a brand-new behind-the-scenes featurette, “We have a keystone event, and that event is Tony Stark becoming Iron Man. He’s forced to build these weapons for an organization, and that organization was the Ten Rings.”
“When they announced this, the movie, I was really, really excited,” said Simu Liu, who plays Shang-Chi. “Kind of tongue-in-cheek, I ended up tweeting Marvel, ‘Hey, are we gonna talk or what?’
“I am very glad I did that.”
Very Intense
It looks like all of us will be very happy Simu did that.
“He’s so intense as this character,” explained Awkwafina, his co-star on the picture, who plays Katy. “Shag-Chi was made for Simu, and I could feel his passion for it.”
Feige added, “The backstory of Shang is really unique, in that he discovered that his father was this evil overlord.”
That is where the action really begins.
“He’s brought back into his father’s world,” said Liu. “He has to deal with coming face to face with him again.
“This is a much meaner and more hardened father… And then crazy stuff happens after that.”
You can see some of the crazy stuff in the official trailer.
However, the interviews with the cast and crew show how personal this story is to the principals.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton said, “My heart is definitely in this project.
“It feels in line with everything I believe in and is a crazy, wild, giant ride that we are gonna go on.”
Finally, check out the featurette:
Shang-Chi hits theaters on September 3.
