Irish Village Not So Disenchanted Afterall
A small Irish village bids adieu to their temporary Disney magic. Enniskerry, a small town just south of Dublin, and neighboring Greystones, said their goodbyes the the cast of Disenchanted this week.
The star-studded sequel to 2007’s Enchanted was filming in the tiny town of around 2000 people since May.
Little Towns, Big Makeovers
The small town got a big makeover when Disney arrived. Store fronts were painted and gilded with gold, renamed things like Bibidi Bobidi Butchers and Potions, Notions and Lotions. Homes were dressed up and streetscapes were decorated. The whimsical, magical kingdom of Andalasia came to life.
According to the Irish Independent, one home in nearby village Greystones even gained a new turret roof and a flowery princess makeover!
Hollywood Brings the Crowds
Film stars Patrick Dempsey, Amy Adams and Maya Rudolph have been filming on set in Enniskerry and Greystones. The A-list names drew big day-tripping crowds, particularly on weekends. Irish gardai (police) said the volume of visitors and illegal parking was causing problems for emergency accessibility in the filming area.
To help the issue but still welcome the crowds, a large field was designated as a parking area a short distance from the main village. It was affectionately dubbed, “Goofy Parking”. A small fee was charged with proceeds being donated to local sports teams.
Stars On The Move
Former Grey’s Anatomy star Dempsey seems to have enjoyed his time in the rural Irish countryside. The star posted pictures and videos of his leisurely travels on his Instagram page, including a video captioned,
This place is Incredible.”
Actually Enchanted
News personality, Ireland AM’s Anna Daly, thanked Disney for sprinkling ‘magic dust’ on Greystones. She told twinkling stories of her son and neighbors meeting cast members and witnessing the behind-the-scenes Disney magic.
But alas, all good things must come to an end. The end of filming was announced via local media and the parking lot was closed. Sets were being dismantled over the last day or two and reality sets back in for the people of County of Wicklow.
Sounds like Disney’s little sprinkling of pixie dust didn’t leave the County of Winslow so disenchanted after all.
