Second Holland Spider-Man Trilogy is a Possibility
Ever since his first appearance in “Captain America: Civil War,” Tom Holland’s youthful and innocent take on the teenage superhero Spider-Man made him one of the favorite actors to ever portray the Marvel hero. However, due to licensing agreements with Sony, his tenure in the MCU has always been stuck in a web of confusion.
Holland Contract Talks
Tom Holland’s contract with Sony technically ends after “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” and his co-star (and real-life girlfriend) Zendaya, threw gas on the flames of what will happen next with the character during an interview with Daily Pop.
“[It was] kind of bittersweet,” Zendaya said in the interview. “We don’t know if we’re gonna do another one. … Is it just gonna be three and done? Like, kind of normally you do three movies and that’s pretty much it.”
Is this the end for Holland’s Spider-Man?
Yesterday, Giant Freakin Robot may have answered the question. The website claims to have “trusted and proven” sources who can verify that Marvel President Kevin Feige has already discussed plans on another Spider-Man trilogy starring the beloved current cast. Of course, this is all subject to Holland’s contract with Sony being renewed.
A Tangled Web of Contracts
This isn’t the first time Spider-Man has hung in the balance. The last movie, “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” marked the end of the saga’s contract with Marvel Studios. In a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Feige opened up about the tense situation.
“There was a time when it looked like Marvel Studios would not be involved in Spider-Man movies going forward for Sony. It was only a few months, but it was an emotional few months for, I think, all of us on all sides,” Feige said in an interview. Eventually, Marvel prevailed with a rumored intoxicated voicemail left on Kevin Feige’s answering machine by Tom Holland begging him to make the deal happen.
A Trailer on the Horizon
The previous scare assuredly greased the wheels for future talks. Hopefully, this means that the contract issue will be worked out quickly this time.
Until then, fans continue to wait for the release of the “Spider-Man: No Way Home” trailer that Sony has been teasing for months now. Due to its rumored multiversal plot, it’s thought that the “Loki” finale was the final obstacle standing in the way of the release. With any luck, the trailer will include a “Loki”-esque post-credits scene exclaiming “Spider-Man will return!”
