Forcing the company to sell off the film rights to some of your favorite Marvel characters in order to combat what seemed like a collapse of the industry.

Reclaiming all that was lost during the Fox acquisition deal with Disney- now the parent company to Marvel and Marvel Studio’s- Marvel was almost returned to the complete ownership over its characters that it had maintained for much of its existences as a Comic company.
Yet, one character- and his robust rogue’s gallery and side characters- are still the intellectual property of Sony; a fact that will likely never change.
It was an unprecedented agreement in 2015 that altered this for Marvel, and for everyone’s favorite web-slinger.

Peter Parker returned home as Sony agreed to partner in bringing Spiderman to the MCU; with Sony having a hand in how the character was dealt, and still being able to build their own universe full of their Spiderman related character pool, Marvel would be allowed to include Spiderman in the construction of the MCU, and in his own trilogy with the Mouse House.
Now at the conclusion of that deal, many have wondered what’s next? With Venom, Morbius, and Kraven the Hunter all getting films in Sony’s Spiderman universe, what is to come of Tom Hollands Peter Parker? A character who is so defined, connected to, and engrained the MCU?

It seems there may be an answer as one Sony executive speaks on “The plan,” for Tom Holland.
The President of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, Sanford Panitch, spoke to Variety on Sony’s in-construction cinematic universe, and the apparent plan they have; q plan that will be on full display after the events of Holland’s final MCU film.
Specifically talking about the currently in production Kraven film, and the currently shelves Morbius and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Panitch was quick to note that Song isn’t simply trying to build a Spiderman universe, but build their own Marvel universe.

“We don’t really think of our 900 characters as the Spidey-verse,” Panitch stated. “We have a Marvel universe. The volume of characters we have — you know, wait until you see this next ‘Venom.’ You don’t miss Spider-Man.”
The executive ended with noting, “There actually is a plan, I think now maybe it’s getting a little more clear for people where we’re headed and I think when ‘No Way Home’ comes out, even more, will be revealed.”
There is no certainty as to what the plan could be, but Sony has its sights set on their own Marvel universe; whether that includes Tom Holland is still in doubt.
