When Will Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto Reopen?
Recently we took a stroll to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to watch Happily Ever After and walked through the graveyard that was Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto.
With more and more offerings reopening after the mass closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re sat here wondering “when will Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto reopen once again?”.

Prior to physical distancing being eliminated, we understood given that the inside of the bar has a total of 50 seats- even the outdoor seating area only has 80, leaving not much room for patrons with social distancing measures.
However, now that social distancing is a thing of the past at the Walt Disney World Resort, why is the popular bar still closed?

The tiki bar has been a fan favourite since its opening in 2015 at Walt Disney World and it always has a higher demand than they can accommodate, leaving a wait time to even enter.
It could be pondered if the extended closure could be due to Disney’s effort of inclusivity which is already taking place on the Jungle Cruise attraction.

Trader Sam himself has already been removed from the opening day ride, however, this doesn’t seem to be the reason here.
Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar has already reopened at the Disneyland Hotel, albeit with adjusted names for some of the cocktail offerings.

For example, what was previously known as the Shrunken Zombie Head is now simply known as the Zombie and is served in the same souvenir style mug.
It could be said that a possible renovation is coming, however, why would Disney not announce this to build anticipation of the reimagined Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto?

Whatever the answer may be, we know we are seriously missing the beloved bar experience and can’t wait for it to reopen.
We especially miss catching the fireworks while sipping on a Spikey Mikey or a HippopotoMai-Tai.
(How do you get a hippo out of a tree?!)

Until then we’ll eagerly await the return of Trader Sam’s Grogg Grotto and enjoy the delicious Lapu Lapu at Tambu Lounge until then.
