Star Wars: Visions Novel Features Wandering Former Sith
Ronin’s main character is the protagonist in the Star Wars: Visions short “Duel”….
It’s not unusual (Ha. Ha. Tom Jones). Me thinking about Jules Winnfield – Samuel L. Jackson’s character in Pulp Fiction.
But today, I’m thinking of Jules’ second career; you know, the one after the whole evil hitman thing.
Jules: I’m just going to walk the Earth.
Vincent: What’chou mean, “walk the Earth”?
Jules: You know, like Caine in Kung Fu: walk from place to place, meet people, get into adventures.
Vincent: And how long do you intend to walk the earth?
Jules: Until God puts me where he wants me to be.
Vincent: And what if he don’t do that?
Jules: If it takes forever, then I’ll walk forever.
Anyway, I often think about Jules and where the character might be, right now.
Walking The Galaxy
Fast forward 27 years, there’s a new character who has a lot of similarities with Jules; a “former” villain, ready to wander, and — presumably — “get into adventures.”
A major difference: This ain’t LA anymore.
Today, StarWars.com introduced the paper piece of the upcoming Star Wars: Visions project.
The big, grim cat is out of the bag! RONIN's cover, juicy tidbits about how the story came together, and a synopsis, as a treat.

Introducing Star Wars: Ronin: A Visions Novel
Dan Brooks posted:
Star Wars: Ronin: A Visions Novel by Emma Mieko Candon, coming October 12, will expand on the world of The Duel, telling the story of a former, unnamed Sith — known only as Ronin, i.e., a wandering samurai — as he travels the galaxy. According to James Waugh of the Lucasfilm Story Group and executive producer of Star Wars: Visions, there was just too much left to explore in Mizuno’s vision (for lack of a better term) to stop with one tale.
Check out the first look at the amazing #StarWarsVisions animated anthology coming this September.
As for our novel #Ronin? Stay tuned. But maybe watch that awesome trailer a few times. Might find a clue or two… https://t.co/tiSZwHH0Qy

Getting to the Deets
StarWars.com posted a snippet of the book, along with a synopsis.
However, the most interesting news about the novel comes from Emma Mieko Candon, who penned Ronin. They spoke about the book and described the most important influences on the tome.
“In brief, jidaigeki [period dramas], Japanese monsters and folklore, and war trauma,” explained Candon to StarWars.com. “The Duel is very much in conversation with period dramas a la [Akira] Kurosawa, while the latter two felt like natural Japanese extensions of the ‘Star’ and ‘Wars’ parts of Star Wars… I had to ask how this man rejected (or was rejected by) his social role, and why he continues to cleave to it.
“Why does he still carry that tell-tale red blade? And why does he hunt his own?” they asked.
Ronin and The Duel
Meanwhile, we did get a look at “Duel” and Candon’s main character via moments in the trailer:
Yes, that is an R2 unit with a hat.
This Force user is no joke. And might fit right in on the Seven Samurai poster, no?
Can’t wait to see “Duel” and read Ronin.
