Try This Star Wars Cocktail: A Mace Windu
So, as we head into “Star Wars Day 2020: Lockdown Edition,” I thought I’d point out some of the best “stuff” from a galaxy far, far away.
Okay, so you had a tough day. You went to arrest the Chancellor. He skewered three of your best buds. But you persevered. You had Darth Sideous on the ropes, and the kid you never even wanted to be a padawan (never mind a Jedi, a master, or on the council) chopped off your arm.
And, finally, Mr. Melty Face shot you with blue lightning and you dropped hundreds of stories.
So, it’s time to wind down; to pull something together.
Well, Mace Windu, I give you a “Mace Windu.”
Star Wars Cocktail: The Mace Windu
My buddy Jonny invented it (shortly after we returned from a business trip, which afforded us some time at Galaxy’s Edge and in Oga’s Cantina). And I think even a battled-hardened Jedi master would enjoy it.
“I love experimenting and playing around with new ingredients when it comes to cocktail-making,” he said. “Bully Boy Distillery in Boston was having an Instagram Quarantine Cocktail Competition – seemed like the perfect opportunity to have some fun and keep busy while being stuck inside.”
You Can’t Lock Down Imagination
And lockdown TV helped Jon’s imagination along.
“At the time, every cable channel was repeating the prequels and episodes 4-6, so I got inspired to evolve existing recipes of mine to create something that wasn’t necessarily for the typical at-home bartender,” he said. “I wanted to challenge myself. Numerous ingredients later, including an egg white – the color of the finished product just screamed Windu to me.
“That and Episode 3 may have also been on in the background.”
Master Windu:
1.0oz Gin
1.0oz Pomegranate Juice
1.0oz Blueberry Syrup
0.25oz Amaro
0.25oz Lemon Juice
0.25oz Lime Juice
Dry shake with an egg white, then shake with ice.
Garnish with two Luxardo Cherries on a toothpick and drizzle a bar spoon of Luxardo syrup.
Serve in a coupe glass.
“The added drizzle of Luxardo syrup gives it that ‘purple lightsaber being sliced through the air-look,” said the would-be bartender.
A Drink Worthy of a Jedi Master
The drink certainly does recall Mace and his saber.
“In the end, it’s a delicious cocktail that’s smooth and gives you a bit of swag when you drink it,” said Jonny. “Something I think Mace Windu’s Nick Fury-esk personality would be proud to sample.”
And so will many of you adults out there.
