Construction Update: Tron Coaster Taking Shape at Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom
MickeyBlog is at the Magic Kingdom today and popped by Tomorrowland to give us an update on construction of the TRON Coaster.
Above is a stunning view of the progress coming along on the outdoor canopy.
Crews are still hard at work on the outdoor portion of the coaster track.
The bulk of the structure looks like its finished and preparations are in place for the panels that will cover the structure.
As of going to print Disney World has yet to announce an official opening day for the attractions.
For those looking to check out the project for yourself a great spot is in Storybook Circus next to the barnstormer.
Now that the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is up and running you can also get unrestricted views of this massive build.
The canopy will also be a structure that flows organically over visitors while you race aboard your Lightcycle. After the indoor portion of the coaster guests the canopy will serve as the “digital bridge” for your transition into “The Grid.”
The finished product is sure to be an awe-inspiring experience. As the lightcycles whiz past dynamic lighting will follow along the canopy.
This will create an incredible visual for riders! We can’t wait for you to see it. It will be petty amazing!
The TRON Lightcycle/Run draws it’s inspiration for the headlining attraction at Shanghai Disney.
Guests board a two-wheeled lightcycle, which almost feels like a futuristic motorcycle.
Just like in the movie of the same name, you’re quickly whisked away on a thrilling race to the digital frontier.
Disney has originally said that the attraction will open this year as part of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration.
However, this was before COVID required that the parks be shut down for 1/2 a year.
Since re-opening last Summer, Disney has said little about the impact the COVID shutdown has had on the coaster nor if it’s on schedule for a 2021 opening.
With a large amount of work still to be done, we aren’t sure whether we’ll see this Tomorrowland attraction welcoming guests this year.
However when it does open, you can expect it to breathe new life into the Tomorrowland area of Walt Disney World.
It is sure to be a headlining attraction at Magic Kingdom the same way the Rise of the Resistance and Flight of Passage currently are.
It also adds another coaster to Magic Kingdom’s already impressive line-up which is good news as Splash Mountain faces a lengthy period of closure while it’s retheming to a new Princess and the Frog storyline.
It will not be the only NEW coaster coming to Walt Disney World. Preparations are still being made for the Indoor Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster coming to Future World in EPCOT.
