CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort & Monorail Stop
Our MickeyBloggers are on the scene at Walt Disney World today where they popped by Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to take a look at the construction being done.
If you’ve been following along with us, you’ll know that the Poly is currently undergoing a massive refurbishment.
All of the guest rooms at the Polynesian are currently in the process of being renovated.
Rooms are being done in a fun and fresh Moana theme that blends in perfectly with the Mid-Century Modern aesthetic of the property!
But today, our focus is on the Main Ceremonial House on the property.
A new port cochere is in the process of being built to give guests a more grand entrance to this monorail resort.
Inside the central building guests will also find new decor, lighting features and other special touches!
The property is also completely revamping its monorail station.
Once finished the station will have a larger waiting area of guests, a new security checkpoint and more!
You can really see how much construction has come along to the monorail platform.
Earlier this Spring it was all tracks and beams with not much of an external structure. However all of that is changing.
Disney is hoping to finish up work by next month.
Though initially we were skeptical, the project really seems to be coming together over the last few weeks.
During our visit this morning, a crane was there to hoist the big wooden beams and structures that make up the Polynesian-style roof at the resort!
It was quite an elaborate affair.
You can actually see the giant pylons being put together over in the parking lot!
Teams were hard at work making sure all of the beams fit in place.
It was very interesting to watch them work on this project in a different though nearby location.
At some point presumably when the structure is completed, Disney will hoist it over to the roof of the Poly.
It really is such an elaborate process.
Here’s a look at the work being carried out from a distance.
Above you can see crews hard at work on the monorail platform itself!
As we showed you last week, guests will have a much larger walkway from the Main Ceremonial House to the monorail platform.
The platform itself has also been widened.
This image below taken from underneath the monorail line shows the work being carried out to the platform.
It looks like flooring has been put down, a base coat has been painted and part of the roof structure is completed!
A visit to the site looks a little bit like a jigsaw puzzle but it won’t be long before all of the pieces come together!
The Polynesian Resort has long been on of our favorite Disney properties and we can’t wait for these much-needed upgrades!
Because of the entrance is currently set up, we always found pulling up to the resort to be a little lackluster.
We’ve got a feeling that’s all about to change given the sheer size and scope of this project!
We’ll be visiting the Polynesian each and every week and continue to be excited about sharing the progress of this massive project with you!
This is just one of a handful of massive overhauls happening at Disney World just now.
All of the guest rooms are currently being refurbished at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
We also know that upgrades are being made to Animal Kingdom Lodge and perhaps even Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter.
Though Disney World is remaining pretty quiet about most of these projects, we do know that they are trying to push to have a lot of the work completed as Disney gears up to it’s 50th Anniversary celebration on October 1st.
It will kick off an incredible year of celebration meaning that there’s NEVER been a bigger time to start planning your Disney getaway!
