Are Masks Required While Waiting In Line at Disney World Theme Parks?
So as you know, Disney World made the announcement last night that facemasks will no longer be required while outdoors at the theme parks. This is a momentous occasion and we here at MickeyBlog hit the theme parks bright and early to see these exciting changes first hand.
As you can see from the NEW signage now posted near the entrance to Magic Kingdom, Disney is still enforcing a mandatory mask policy on all attractions and indoor locations.
So what does this mean for those queuing for the rides? Technically, Disney policy asks that you put a mask on the minute you enter the queue, keep the mask on throughout your wait and while on the attraction and remove it when you exit.
However, during our visit to Magic Kingdom this morning, it was a bit unclear whether or not this was being enforced. For instance, here’s a look at the queue for Peter Pan’s Flight shortly after park opening. As you can see guests in the outdoor queue were not required to mask up!
However on other attractions like Carousel of Progress guests had to put their masks as they entered the line.
As you can see in the PeopleMover line above it was a bit of a mixed bag. Some wore masks, others didn’t and the policy wasn’t really enforced while in the queue.
During our visit to Splash Mountain this morning we were told masks had to be worn from the moment you get in line until you exit the ride.
This seemed consistent with Pirates of the Caribbean which also required guests to mask up before entering the queue.
So what exactly is going on with Disney World’s new mask policy? According to a few cast members that we spoke to today, the decision about masks is almost being done on a case per case basis.
A friendly cast member informed us this afternoon that each attraction must decide how the queue will work in regard to masks. The staff at each individual ride have jurisdiction over the attraction and whether or not the policy will be enforced.
There’s no word yet as to whether this will remain the policy at Disney World or if this is just teething problems as the teams adapt to the recent change in rules.
In the meantime, we recommend you have your masks in hand like these ladies so that you’re prepared in any event. We will also be paying close attention to how these new policies are enforced going forward and we promise to keep you updates.
