Masks Likely Be A Thing of The Past By This Summer at Walt Disney World
Just a few hours ago, the CDC announced that masks were no longer recommended for Americans who are fully vaccinated in all outdoor situations and most indoor environments. During today’s earnings call for The Walt Disney Company, Bob Chapek addressed the new guidance from the CDC in the following statement and hinted as the possibility of having the mask mandate lifted as early as this Summer.
Today’s guidance that we got from the CDC in terms of those that were vaccinated do not necessarily need to wear masks anymore both outdoor and indoors is very big news for us, particularly if anybody’s been in Florida in the middle of the summer with a mask on. That could be quite daunting. So we think that’s going to make for an even more pleasant and we believe that as we’re now brining a lot of people back to work, that it’s going to be an even bigger catalyst for growth in attendance, and we’ve been quite pleased to date.

And, just moments ago, Chapek appeared on CNBC saying, “There’s going to be a lot more comfortable people this summer in Orlando.”
While it’s looking very hopeful that we won’t have to wear a mask this Summer at Walt Disney World, I am also hopeful that some of our other favorite pre-Covid features including FastPasses and dining plans might soon return.
Yesterday, Walt Disney World confirmed that they would be reducing social distancing guidelines in attraction queues from six to three feet. And, during today’s earning call, Chapek announced that Walt Disney World been actively increasing capacity levels and will continue to do so. Both of these bits of information make me think the return of FastPasses or something similar along with the return of dining plans is also on the horizon.
