The Falcon and The Winter Soldier: Disney+’s Biggest Debut
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier began its run as the biggest-ever premiere on Disney+
File under: Duh.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier started off how most would’ve expected – flying high.
Much like Anthony Mackie’s Falcon, in the first 10-minutes of the show, the first-ever episode’s numbers were soaring.
Marvel.com gave the details:
Disney+ Original series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier from Marvel Studios ranked as the most-watched series premiere ever on Disney+ during its opening weekend, Friday, March 19 – Sunday, March 22, and the most-watched title overall for the same time period on a global basis, including in Disney+ Hotstar markets.
The premiere of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier joins Marvel Studios’ first live-action series, WandaVision, and the season two premiere of The Mandalorian from Lucasfilm as the three most-watched Disney+ Original series-opening weekends to-date.
The Critics Liked It, Too
Critic consensus (as judged by RottenTomatoes.com) was generous as the site posted:
An ambitious blend of big-screen action and intimate storytelling, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s opening episode makes a strong case that smaller MCU moments can still pack a serious punch.
Our favorite critic, Perri Nemiroff, said:
It’s only the beginning, but Falcon and the Winter Solider already shows great promise in the earthbound action department – especially with Falcon – and with its grounded approach to exploring life in a post-Blip world.

I disagree with Perri only in that I would have given it a slightly higher than 3.5/5 score.
Meanwhile, Disney+ Continues Its Amazing Start
The streaming service launched in November 2019 with original titles like the premiere episode of The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars series, the premiere episode of Disney Channel’s High School Musical franchise spin-off High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and documentary series like Marvel’s Hero Project, The Imagineering Story, and The World According to Jeff Goldblum.
