Bright Suns: The Art of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Arrives in April
Rising Moons: Are you ready to learn more about Batuu?
It’s been a while since this guy has seen Batuu and, well, I miss Black Spire Outpost.
Today, as we look forward to the spring, warmer weather, and Ronto Wraps, we can see a break in the clouds; and there, sitting above the horizon, three suns (and two moons).

The Ronto Wrap: Filled with roasted pork, grilled sausage, peppercorn sauce, and tangy slaw wrapped in pita found at Ronto Roasters, located in the Black Spire Outpost market. (Kent Phillips/Disney Parks)
And, while I may not be in Walt Disney World before the summer, a new book on the horizon might give me a respite from missing Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge arrives soon….
Announced back in July, The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge by Amy Ratcliffe will arrive in book stores on April 27.
The official boilerplate from Amazon.com reads:
The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the only book to provide an inside look at the magic behind the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge themed lands at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, documenting the art and innovations that led to the creation of Galaxy’s Edge. Featuring hundreds of full-color concept artworks, sketches, blueprints, photographs, and more, the book will reveal Walt Disney Imagineering’s creative process.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge invites guests to explore Black Spire Outpost, located on the remote Outer Rim planet Batuu—a spaceport bustling with First Order and Resistance activity where guests can interact with droids, creatures, and fan-favorite characters. Alongside Black Spire Outpost’s vibrant cantina and marketplace, a new and original score composed by John Williams accompanies guests as they seek out the land’s two major attractions: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, which allows guests to commandeer the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, in which guests find themselves in the crossfire of a ferocious battle between the Resistance and the First Order.
Exclusive interviews with the key creative minds who shaped the lands’ design provide commentary on what it’s like to dream and then build a life-size Star Wars adventure.
Plus, the book offers an inside look at the upcoming Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience, a first-of-its-kind immersive two-night adventure.
Trowbridge Teases The Tome
The guy behind the forward (and a whole lot of “Star Wars Land”), Scott Trowbridge, teased the book last year:
Providing an exclusive look at the visual development behind Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, this large-format book showcases much of the amazing concept art and design that ultimately defined the immersive lands. Featuring never before seen artwork – as well as exclusive interviews about the land’s creation – from artists at Walt Disney Imagineering, Lucasfilm and many others, this book offers an inside look at what goes into making an immersive Star Wars destination.
The land’s rich storytelling provided a great opportunity for exclusive commentary from many of the key creative minds involved in bringing Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to life. This behind-the-scenes look at our creative process, combined with hundreds of full-color concept artworks, sketches, blueprints, photographs, and more, is what makes this book about dreaming up and creating Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge so special.
I’m also happy to share that this book was authored by the talented Amy Ratcliffe, managing editor of Nerdist and author of Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy.
That will be a triple dose of sunshine in April, no?
