An Update On The Grand Floridian Society Orchestra
Walt Disney World Posts Statement Regarding Popular Music Group
Unfortunately, we were among the first to post about the demise of the Grand Floridian Society Orchestra.
And now, Walt Disney World weighed in on the final performance of the group, which will hit the stage at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on October 3.
A Statement from Walt Disney World
In a statement shared by BroadwayWorld.com, Geoffrey Kiser, executive correspondence specialist for Walt Disney World said:
As you may know., we are always evaluating and refining our offerings and creating new ideas to build upon Disney stories. This philosophy is in keeping with Walt Disney’s vision for continuing to grow and evolve, giving Guests a mixture of familiar and new experiences with each visit. In alignment with this philosophy, we have made the decision to end the limited-time run of the Disney Society Orchestra and Friends this fall with their last performance being on Saturday October 3, 2020. We apologize for any disappointment that this may cause you and please be assured that we have shared all of your feedback with the appropriate Executive Leadership Teams.
As it often is when a long-standing set of performers is let go, the outpouring was immediate.
We cataloged some of that in our first post on the orchestra.
A Response From The Orchestra
In a Facebook post from September 28, The Society Orchestra said:
We are truly overwhelmed, very grateful and humbled at the massive number of heartfelt comments and sentiments you all have shared. [The orchestra] heard that someone started a petition to bring us back and there are over 1800 signatures on it so far. We can’t thank you all enough for showing your love and support… Unbelievable! Thank you so much!“We need to clarify… our last day of performances, October 3rd, will be at the Theater of the Stars at Hollywood Studios… NOT the Grand Floridian. We have not played at the Grand Floridian since March 18th!“For those of you asking… we do have CDs available. Please message us for details. We have so many great memories of our time at the Grand Floridian… our thanks to you all!”
